1 Sunday session: December 5 (2010) *
1-2pm
Taught by Alyssa Pagano
For students (+ interviewees), ages 10 and up
"When I was a kid, I had to walk ten miles to school every day. It was uphill both ways..."
Has your Grandpa told you this one before? Do you believe him? Now is your chance to hear the whole story and to have it recorded for your children's children to hear. YOU will become the historian and learn how to capture your family's history.
In this workshop, we'll discuss the importance of oral history and practice writing interview questions that help keep the conversation going. We will listen to some interviews from StoryCorps, a nation-wide oral history project dedicated to recording, sharing, and preserving the stories of everyday Americans.
PLEASE NOTE:
* Students must bring an interviewee (a mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, or older sibling) to this workshop.
* In addition to the Sunday session, students (and interviewees!) must sign up for a 1-hour recording session to be held at 826NYC on Wednesday, December 8th or Wednesday, December 15th.
Participants will receive a CD copy of their interview shortly after the recording session takes place.
To sign up, please fill out this form (all fields are required):
Students may also sign up for workshops in person at 826NYC. All workshops require a $25 deposit which will be returned once the student has attended all sessions of the class. Please call 718.499.9884 if you have any questions.
