Superhero Supply Not Yet Super--But Getting Closer
May 22, 2005
Across a blue-gray Corlears Hook blacktop, the Superhero Supply Company softball team fell to Cambridge University Press, 10-4, Thursday. Stymied by obscure ground rules ("If you hit it over the fence, onto FDR Drive and cause an 11-car pileup, well, that's an automatic out"), the Suppliers still tapped their offense in the seven-inning loss.
Sam Potts, part of the center's advisory board, went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and anchored the defense at shortstop. Volunteer Elaine Palucki proved ever vigilant at third base, manning a hot corner made even more treacherous by loose gravel.
The Suppliers, 0-2 in the League of Superpowered Athletes and the Mortals Who Get the Better of Them, are currently negotiating appearance fees for their next matchup.
