It Was Love. Love and Pie.
February 27, 2006
Yesterday's Three Minutes of Collaboration students filmed the final scene of their comedy noir, tentatively titled "Love and Pie." Before this scene, Sai (playing a waiter/pie assassin) avenged the local children's hospital by pie-ing Colin (playing a corrupt CEO on the verge of tearing down the hospital). The pie-ing, believe it or not, only took one take. Stay tuned for next week's workshop, during which the students will edit their thriller, add sounds, and create titles. Check back with 826NYC for updates on DVD availability.
Ms. Best's Mildew Afficionados
February 06, 2006
Down at the center this week, we hosted Ms. Best’s fourth grade class for a Storytelling & Bookmaking field trip. Twenty-one smiling faces greeted us in the store, as has become the field trip routine. However, a few familiar faces appeared in the group. We had some returning field trip veterans: Parnell, Charlotte, and Tyra had all gone through the Mildew Gauntlet and returned for another challenge. What we thought would be another morning of fun literary kicks turned out to be a milestone for this 826 branch.
The class rose to the occasion by writing a fable about a prankster pair of pants and a sassy, hooded sweatshirt. Although the kids were a little taller and a little wiser, they still had the same inquiries about the elusive H. Mildew.
Williamsburgh's Tutoring Annex Opens!
February 02, 2006
Drop-in has been hit with Scrabble mania lately. Yesterday, Marcus, age 10, wowed his opponents by breaking out the word "antietam" in his first turn. After that and last week's use of "gambit" (Alex, age 7), we're not quite sure what next week's competitors will come up with.
Next Monday marks the first day of the Williamsburgh tutoring annex, located in the basement of the Williamsburgh Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. We're thrilled to officially open the vault doors to students and tutors, 2:30-5:30pm, Mondays through Thursdays. Please swing by and check out back issues of The Williamsburgh Satellite, geographical indices of good and evil, secret identity relocation system updates, and the latest in public service announcements for local superheroes. We look forward to seeing you there.
