May 29, 2006
This Thursday, June 1st, 826NYC will host its End of the Year Extravapalooza, an evening of readings, signings, and hobnobbing to celebrate the release of the second issue of The 826NYC Review, the premiere issue of Sonny Paine, and presentations of the exceptional films, radio stories, and songs that have been created at 826NYC this year.
The 826NYC Review features stories about robots, Led Zeppelin, and outer-space firefighters. For a sneak peak, check out The 826NYC Interview with Brendan, Creator of 'Utencil Boy'.
Sonny Paine is a brand new literary journal created by writers who happen to be in high school. Founding editor, Matt Goodman, shares his thoughts on the publication's success in his blog entry, Sonny Paine!
They Write the Songs That Make the Whole World Sing
May 17, 2006
Last night 826NYC and the instructors of the "I Write the Songs That Make the Whole World Sing" workshop released eight tracks by Brooklyn's hottest new bands. Lucky fans were treated to sparkling cider and exclusive interviews with Nala (of Nala B), Gio (of Yellow Robot Go Car Angry), Violet (of Vick), Nalani (of Ocean Breeze), Jeremy (of the Meganigma Rockers), Alegra (of the X-10 Dementors), and Erick (of Red Lion). Select audience members took home copies of the album, produced by Steve White, while Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell, Jeff Bowen, and Heidi Blickenstaff dropped tracks and uncovered some shocking truths (Jeremy's favorite color? Green. Erick's favorite ice cream? Strawberry.).
Sneak previews of the album will soon be available in 826NYC's writing gallery. Just remember, you heard them here first.
Love With A Capital "L"
May 08, 2006
After months of careful crafting and disciplined attention, Nalani is wrapping up her long awaited script. This dramatic fifth-grader is close to completion on her first, full length drama, "Hollywood Heaven". Many know Nalani as a drop-in tutoring regular. It has been her main focus to spend her post-homework time hammering out an amazing script. Her piece mocks Hollywood scandals, the law, and the press through its exploration of a media hoax involving Shirley Temple. Sound unbelievable? Just wait until you experience the explosive ending where Love comes to the rescue. Forget comic book heroes, the only summer blockbuster worth seeing stars a child actress of the golden age and a ten-year-old with a wild creative streak.
