Good Listening from Kids on the Radio

August 29, 2006

The Kids on the Radio workshop will meet one last time tomorrow to organize tape, finish writing and recording, and score their stories. Over the last four weeks, the young producers have listened to samples of radio journalism, gathered interviews with field recording equipment, and edited and scored a short interview conducted in class by Julian and Chandani on the hardships of being the new kid at school. The coming stories promise to be good listening, ranging in subject matter from basketball-legend-fathers to Russian immigrant babysitters to a deeply felt passion for swimming.

Sonny Paine Needs Submissions!

August 17, 2006

Sonny Paine needs fiction and nonfiction from high schoolers! Now and only now (ok, well, maybe later) Sonny Paine will accept submissions from non-New Yorkers! Sonny Paine is hungry for works preferably fewer than 3,000 words and in Microsoft Word format!

For those teenagers who have been toiling, or toiling over their lack of toiling, on their short stories all summer, Sonny Paine is here for you. For those teenagers who kind of want to toil, will toil a little, pop something quick and glib out, Sonny Paine is still here for you. So feel better about your summer, and send us something. Get it done and email your submission to sonnypaine@826nyc.org!

Mothers and Daughters

August 03, 2006

Our crew of young writers-actors-directors wrap up filming this afternoon for 826NYC's Summer Filmmakers program. Today, the Death is Calling cast films on location on Seventh Avenue. In this horror flick, Mrs. O'Brian (nice mom) and her daughter Emily (smart) are haunted by a dark secret that lurks inside their new home...

Curious to hear what happens next? Watch for announcements about both films' premieres, set for later this month.
