The Knight of Time Reading Series

September 25, 2006

Believe it or not, our volunteers do not just tutor, teach classes, design publications, and play Scrabble and chess. Please join us on Wednesday at 8pm for the first installment of The Knight of Time reading series, which will feature selections by Erika Hart (workshops), Martin Kleinman (drop-in), Matt Ufford (drop-in, field trips, store), Bryce R. Covert (drop-in, store), Jason Amos (drop-in, store, field trips), Allegra Frazier (drop-in, store), and Elizabeth Bachner (Williamsburgh, field trips).

The Knight of Time reading series takes place on the last Wednesday of every month, at 826NYC. All readings feature three-minute selections by 826NYC volunteers.

They Sang, They Read, They Took Revenge

September 12, 2006

826NYC is still recovering from the colossal outpouring of generosity from the audience, and especially the performers, promoters, and behind-the-scenes folks who made our REVENGE OF THE BOOK EATERS show at the Beacon Theater on August 23rd such an astounding success. Even though the show was sold out over a month in advance, the audience amazed us by more than doubling our challenge to raise $5000 in extra proceeds by emptying their pockets into our shameless tip buckets. Our deepest gratitude to all who came and contributed. We would like to specifically thank Jon Stewart, John Roderick, Sufjan Stevens, David Byrne, Eric Bogosian, and as always Sarah Vowell, Dave Eggers, Jonathan Coulton, and John Hodgman for donating their time and making the evening so memorable.

The evening couldn't have happened without the hard work and support of the following individuals and organizations: Bowery Presents, Comedy Central, 2x4, Barsuk Records, Ben Karlin, Stereogum, and Matt Hickey at High Road Touring.

And if you were unable to make it there's always this:
