Back to School!

We've just kicked off our fourth year of drop-in tutoring, which means afternoons at the writing center are happily active again. Three days into the school year, Khaled and Alex - now both in fourth grade! - are already collaborating on an action-adventure screenplay. So far, the story involves two fourth grade archaeologists in search of a lost tomb buried by an ancient German tribe in Antarctica. Who knows where the rest of the story will lead?

Board Member Dave Eggers Receives 2007 Heinz Award

Congratulations to board member Dave Eggers, who is one of six recipients of The Heinz Award this year. He has decided to distribute the entire award among all seven 826 chapters - in Ann Arbor, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Boston, and New York.

Thanks to the Heinz Family Foundation for recognizing Dave and his work with 826. And thanks to Dave for his generous gift, which will allow all of us to continue helping students develop the writing skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
