Can You Handle the Spelling BEAST?!
September 12, 2010
On September 30th at 8pm at the Canal Room in Manhattan, 826NYC presents the SPELLING BEAST, a most exigent, obstreperous Spelling Bee, where you and your team mates will have the opportunity to win portentous and beguiling prizes while also supporting the free student writing programs of 826NYC.
A panel of recalcitrant judges, made up of the creators of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee musical, will challenge you and your fellow competitors,, including Catherine Keener (Please Give), Dave Eggers (Zeitoun), Kristen Schaal (Flight of the Conchords), and Ira Glass (This American Life), to spell the most vexatious words ever to make it into the English language. Your only chance of winning? Bribe, or, should we say, "Bee-ribe," the judges.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
1. Sign up to compete! Do you have the grit required to take on the spelling beast? (Or would you, with the help of three other friends, plus the ability to bribe the judges?) Create a team!
2. Purchase a $25 ticket to watch! Too pusillanimous to compete? More interested in being a fly on the wall than a beast on the stage? Come and watch safely from the sidelines!
3. Support a team! Can't make it? Are your beast allergies acting up? Donate money to your favorite team and give them leverage against the beast.
All the proceeds raised from the tournament will benefit the programming at 826NYC and are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Please email Sarah Pollock if you have any questions.
