A Strong Man Saves the Statue of Liberty

by Nahylor and Nahyro Molina, ages 6 and 8

Written during Drop-In Tutoring

April 2005

There once was a man named Eagle. He had puffy black hair in the shape of a square, muscles as big as an elephant, and he always wore green and white shorts. Eagle was a big Eagles fan, and every day Eagle did a lot of exercise.

He would bench press 100 pounds, he would pick up shelves, a door, a table, and a window. He would also pick up a huge fish tank, a couch, and some statues. One day, he decided to pick up the Statue of Liberty.

First he walked toward the statue, then he saw a bunch of water. So he decided to swim. He was so fast, that when he stepped in the water he was practically there. He swam underneath the island and pushed upwards as hard as he could. For a moment he held her up with one hand, but then the statue started to wobble.

It fell, bounced off Eagle’s square hair, and fell—SPLASH!—into the ocean.

“Uh oh,” Eagle said.

He dove down after the statue, and do you know what he saw? A whole family of fish had already moved into the statue’s head. If he moved the statue, all of the fish would lose their home!

Suddenly, Eagle had a great idea. He grabbed a net and carefully captured the fish. Then he put them in a tank he bought at the fish store and quickly put water inside the tank. He put the tank down gently on the ground and swam back down to the statue.

He carefully lifted the statue and put it back where it was, very very gently. Then Eagle gently lifted the fish tank with its fish family and placed it on the statue’s head. And the fish family lived happily ever after. And Eagle visited them every day.
