Just a Typical Day in Banana City

by Noemi, age 8

April 2010

Just another typical day in the Banana City Hospital. Banana Mom was sitting in her bed, wondering if her son would turn out to be a banana or an apple.

At last, Sebastian arrived just in time for his mother's favorite show, Calling Death. He looked like a rare little banana, with skin as smooth as honey. After five minutes in the hospital, he was ready to go home.

Meanwhile, his brother, sister, and father were watching TV, waiting for his arrival -- for a baby surprise story. But trouble was coming.

Two hungry monkeys came to Banana City, to Yellow Street, right next to Sebastian's house. They had moved from the rainforest, where all the bananas had been eaten, because they had a big banana party.

Sebastian came out of the car and he saw the two monkeys moving into the apartment next door. He was scared. His banana heart was going, Boom boom boom! like a drum, but his mother didn’t notice.

They went inside quickly and were safe. That night, when Sebastian tried to fall asleep, he saw the monkeys again outside the apartment, behind the fence. He thought to himself, Oh man, those monkeys are going to do something. I just know it. Ok, I think I have the perfect solution -- I have to go to Africa to find some alligators to feed the monkeys!

The monkeys had invited even more monkeys from the rainforest. There were at least ten monkeys invading the neighborhood.

Sebastian got some coconut milk for his trip and a passport, showed the passport to the lady, and finally got on the plane. It took a week to get to Africa, but he got there and found ten alligators to take back. He put them all in one box and called them souvenirs for his family to sneak them on the plane.

When he got back to Banana City he said, "It's time to go home monkeys! Your invasion is over!" He brought the alligators to Banana Street, and while the monkeys were partying once more (as they did in the rain forest) the alligators busted through the door and chased the monkeys away, back to the forest.

Once the bananas heard the monkeys ran away, they came out of hiding in the basement and celebrated with coconut milk. They never thought 15-year-old Sebastian could go to Africa and save their street. And Sebastian just said… "Yooooooooooou’re welcome."
